About

Hi,

I’m Greg Urbano, a self proclaimed hobbyist/enthusiast photographer.

What does that mean?

I do not photograph for money or to earn a living, I take picture as a creative outlet , a respite from the world around me. It is what I get “lost” in. When taking pictures, or even thinking about taking pictures my thoughts focus on just that, drowning out the noise.

I am also a bit obsessive over it, which I do not consider a bad thing, everyone should have a passion, whatever it is.

Anyway, why this project, why not just say you are not going to use AI in your photography?

Because that is becoming harder and harder to do as the software companies that develop and maintain the software that most photographers use in their post processing are putting AI features into these products. Some the end users are unaware of.

Plus getting it right in camera is never a bad goal, correctly exposing and framing your subject are not bad things, right?

So the only way to keep this project on track, and true to its mission, of avoiding any AI involvement is to shoot straight out of camera. Post only those images created in camera as jpeg’s.

I can use any of these features built into my cameras, but once the image leaves the memory card, no manipulations.

Now, I just want to clarify one thing, I not setting about to take crappy photos, my goal is to create great images, images that tell stories, that look great. Great photographs that is.

You can see my portfolio of images, a recap of the last 15+ years here – https://gregurbano.com/

I am very proud of my past work. I have just sensed that with the influx of AI generated images, it is losing its value. As the assumption is now, without declaration of being “Straight out of Camera”, people will just eventually assume that anything they see online, that looks fairly good, it AI generated.

That is my purpose here, to create work without the assistance in any fashion AI.
