Welcome to my most recent endeavor, where I push back against the move to generate everything with AI.

I mean I get it, I’m not a Luddite. Technology can be useful in certain situations, and AI (artificial intelligence?) has a place in humankind’s future, just not in replacing the creative arts.

People are using AI to generate text, images and video, proclaiming to the world, “Look what I created!” When in reality, they haven’t actually created anything, they have just asked a supercomputer to scramble a bunch of other peoples work up into a salad and regurgitate it back. Its not real art, no one created it, at least not the end results, but all of the info that was fed in once belonged to an artist somewhere.

I declare that the general trend to remove the “human element” from creative arenas like photography has gone too far.

It really started in photography a while back, where images were being manipulated so much in post processing that the end result appeared nothing like the original image that was captured.

I know, I have used these tools, I have participated in spending more time behind the computer screen than behind the camera viewfinder.

But way back in 2012 I tried to push back, not against AI, it really didn’t exist yet (and some people would say it still doesn’t), but against the over post processing of images.

That is when I came up with the concept of “Revenge of the Jpeg“.

I proposed back then to only post and present images straight out of camera- Jpeg’s, using only the features/functions built into the camera itself.

And trust me, there are tons of features built into a modern mirror-less camera, that mostly go unused in a photographers workflow.

But I am here to learn and share my experiences while following these rules, capturing and posting only those types of images.

So stand by, those of us pushing back against the AI generated/manipulated imagery that is flooding the world, are about to get our revenge!

p.s. – This blog is also adhering to only “Human” generated text, so while some might say I am a talented photographer, few would say I am a great writer/speller!
