SOOC

Straight out of camera. JPEG only.

What does that mean?

Revenge of the JPEG is my take on shooting with my modern cameras, only in .jpg mode for the file capture, moving those images straight off the memory card to their final destination, no editing software at all.

I can use any features and functions built into the camera, such as manipulating white balance, shooting modes, built in presets, any feature or function built into a camera is fair game.

This also means getting it right in camera, cropping, exposure, etc.

Once it comes off the memory card though, no adjustments, or opening in any type of software at all!

Why? Because AI, artificial intelligence is wreaking havoc everywhere in the creative communities, people posting images to Flickr or Instagram that are Franken photos at best, complete fabrications at worst. (No offense to Frankenstein, a great novel, written by a person!) And then proclaiming –

Look what I made!

You haven’t “made” anything, a super computer took a bunch of others peoples creations and scrambled them up into what ever popped out on your screen.

Look, I’m not a Luddite, I get it. Technology is useful, AI chatbots/LLM’s are good at crunching large numbers, inspecting code for defects or exploits. They are part of the future. Just not mine when it comes to photography, at least for the next 3 yrs, the arbitrary length I am setting for this project, based on the fact- that was the duration of the time period I claimed this domain name on WordPress!

Any way, follow along as I embark (you can join along) on my journey to experience no post processing, shooting and presenting images, SOOC – straight out of camera.

ps – I am also presenting the text here, SOOB, straight out of brain. No AI assisted writing either, so ignore poor grammar and spelling, this is a photography blog!
